Title: Chucked off line
Post by: loz on September 26, 2005, 12:25:08
Can anyone help?

I got AOL Broadband a number of months ago and it is getting steadily worse.

By about 7pm I cannot get on line at all, (with the continual message that a network cable is unplugged). Prior to this time , there is no problem at all which  suggests that it may be a line problem rather than an AOL problem.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

Loz

Hi Loz, I have AOL Broadband (their very basic cheapest package) and I have no problems whatsoever.  I can get online anytime.  I'm sure that you have but I can only suggest that you uninstall and reinstall AOL and hope that that helps.

Thanks All (Wardy my pics will be in the gallery soon, meanwhile I put a jumbo pink banana on my website in the garden gallery)

You'll like this one - I sent AOL a message from my PC at work to say having problems logging on etc etc.  AOL's reply?

Can you log onto your home computer and send the message from there

Er am I missing something here?  Like I can't log on at home?

Never mind, only another 6 months before my contract ends and I can find another ISP

Hi Loz - if you've got a firewall have you checked that the connection is enabled?

Also make sure that you do not have the windows firewall as well as any other firewall running.  More than one can cause problems.

Other things that can be worth trying are:
1.  Unplugging any dial up connection
2.  Get the AOL software to re-detect your modem and ensure it is selected
3.  Make sure all your wall sockets are fitted with the broadband boxes.
4.  Double check your local phone exchange is up to handling broadband

Hope that helps.  The only other option I can think of and as has been suggested is to re-install and hope for the best!

I also have AOL and have no issues.

Thanks all

Turned out to be a problem with the default setting on the modem (Db set to 0, I just had to reset it to 20)

Problem is now, I am spending too much time on a poultry forum - by the time I get to A4A it's bedtime  ;D
