I am thinking of getting an allotment and went to look around a site that will have one free in a few weeks.
When I was looking round the caretaker boss bloke mentioned they have quite a few problems with rats eating crops. I don't want my hard work to go to waste and I don't want to even see rats.
Is this normal in city allotments (I am looking in South Manchester) and I just have to accept that they hang around allotments or should I avoid it and look at another plot?
i am a pest controler and i have a lottie
you will find that you are never more than a few feet from a rat
dont worry yes they are full off nasty stuff but if you keep a clean site and maybe get some rat bait and a box you could get on top off them
also the local council should get there pest control on to any complants
dont worry
GO FOR IT
join the lottie revoloution

I agree. It isn't until you look, and I mean really look, that you realise the friendly rodents are all over! At the moment, I would rather rats on the plot than the darn voles that have moved in and ate all of my beans at the ground! gggrrr.
Go on, get an allotment, you know you wanna!
Hi waggi, haven't seen you posting for a while, welcome back.
The only rats I get bothered about are the two legged variety that pay a visit every so often.
Never seen a rat in three years maybe the foxes keep 'em down?

Thanks for the advice. I was just a bit put of as the man showing me around said most people have had their entire crops of sweetcorn munched on by rats.
Sure its rats..the squirrels had mine?
Derek
I get the horrible things all over my plot. they're not much of a nuisance in summer, but in winter the key is to keep putting poison down.
