Title: sqash/pumpkin harvest
Post by: adrianhumph on September 18, 2005, 08:52:03
 Hi all,  :D
Picked these today, there are more but i couldn`t get any more on the bench. The big orange one is a mystery, it came up as a seedling in a veg bed, I transplanted it & this was the result, I guess it came from the birds?  The others are butternuts, the blue /grey ones are crown prince (courtesy of GW`s trials) & the stripy one`s are winter festival.   Adrian.

Wow good crop Adrian, they should keep you going in the winter months! ;D
Think squash is my favorite crop to grow because the end results look so good and taste good too! ;)
And errr you picked them today? What time were you up as it is only 8.57 now!??? :o

Crown Prince    Most prolific squash I grew but tastes bland so needs some spicing up.  The small ones are Sweet Mama which look lovely.

Nice harvest Adrian.
Wardy, I'm looking forwards to a taste report on the sweet mamas. I'm trying to decide on seeds for next year.

Righto.  The one I'm really looking forward to is Marina di Chioggia.  I've put them in the pantry to ripen up at room temp for about 10 days.  The Blue Hubbard was bland as was the Crown Prince (got loads of crown prince to get through).  the small Sweet Mamas look good and hopefully the taste lives up to the name  :)
