Another folk tale for your delight and delectation. In certain parts of the world the farmer is supposed to take his wife to the field at midnight. There she stripped naked and ran round the crop three times. He then threw her to the ground where they made love enthusiastically. This it was claimed saved the crop from a wide range of evils and ensured a good harvest. Of course in modern Britain it would be a man from the Ministry who would be required to perform the act with the farmer' wfie and only if there was a grant available.

Don`t tell me the Romans did it Eric. Virgil and Ovid make no mention whatever of it. Â Besides, the Romans didn`t need to run naked round corn fields at night and copulate in secrecy, they had their orgies in comfort at home, and if the crops needed a bit of help throwing a few christians to the lions was much more fun.
Come to think of it, Apuleius doesn`t mention it either, and he mentions most of the naughty bits.

What they did in Pompaei had Absolutely Nothing At All to do with crops Eric - wonderful life while it lasted. And I don`t think the Romans ever got as far as the Eastern USA, or we`d have spent our time at school construing "Omnis America in tria partes divisa est" into english.
