Title: Removing Tomato Leaves
Post by: dicky on September 12, 2005, 18:57:34
I seem to remember reading somewhere that now is the time to remove leaves from tomato plants and just let the remaining fruit ripen.

I've had a great crop from my 6 plants and have a few bigguns left to go.

Anyone usually do this??

The cucumbers are starting to look a bit old now, bit limp and over worked.

Yes go ahead and remove the leaves now,it will help them ripen. The season is all but at an end for toms,so I doubt whether any more growth will be apparent, the criteria is to get e'm ripened and on the table  ;)

I did this with mine last weekend and had at least a couple of bowls full ripen afterwards.  I'm now hoping to catch a last few stragglers before it's on to green tomato chutney.

Took most of the leaves off our toms last week, partly to help ripening but also to help air circulation as I spotted blight on the toms on another allotment. They looked much better for it.
