Title: Web Photo hosting
Post by: Garden Manager on September 11, 2005, 13:33:33
Whilst Photobucket is good for individual photos, I find it a bit cumbersome for larger quanities. So I am trying to find a quick and easy hosting site that will allow both individual photo linking and whole albums AND has a quick and easy upload service.

I have found during research that whilst 'Webshots' will allow the external linking I require, Uploading photos is time consuming and cumbersome. Conversely, Snapfish (new HPphoto site) has a fast and easy upload service but will only allow you to share your albums with individuals, with no external linking (ie you have to be a member of the site to veiw the photos). Similarly AOL photo hosting is just as restrictive.

I would like to be able to share collections of photos with you on A4All, but at the moment it takes too long to upload more than a handfull of pictures using the sites described above.

Does anyone know of any other good sites which might suit my needs better?

Thanks

What about your ISP Internet Serice Provider) ?

Does that come with any free webspace as that is what I use. Check on their website and see. Some ISP even provide some tools to upload and create web pages.

I would suggest using Image Shack but that takes a bit of time as well The suggestion about using your own website is an excellent one.

You can send a link to a Snapfish album like one used to do with Hpphoto, but unles it is the time of night and narrowband it does take a long time to work.

Thanks to all who replied.  Own website/space sounds a good idea in theory, but does that not take time to set up and run as well?

Since posting I have found one called 'Picturetrail' which is a good site, though in many ways similar to Photobucket.

Palustris: can you point me ith the right direction with Snapfish? I tried the 'Invite a friend' function to get the URL of the album but when i posted it, all it did was take me to a login page - It seemed to me as if you had to be registered with the site first before you could be invited to veiw someones pictures. If you have found a different way, please let me know. Thanks.

THis is what the link looks like when I do it Richard.

It is a long message, but as you can see it does work. The pictures are of last August though not this!
I sent the Invite to myself.  When it arrived at the bottom of the Email was that line. I have to say I found it difficult to copy. In the end I copied what I could and used Wordpad to edit out all the unanted bits before posting it on here.

Thanks Eric. i will give it a try.

Edit:Well it worked up to a point. Still look as if you have to be registered with snapfish to veiw the photos, but at least it does let you do that if you just want to veiw the photos.  I guess that will have to do then.

Thanks again for your help

Sorry, Richard did not look in the Gallery. That link works for me no trouble. Nice pics too! ;D
Rather annoying that one has to join to view them though, naughty I would say!

Glad I got it right, and it works then eric (its hard to tell when you are testing it yourself). Glad you like the pictures as well.

As you say naughty of Snapfish to require registration to veiw. Clever way to get new members and email addreses that  ::). Never mind eh?
