Just started training for an 80 mile cycle :o . Along an old railway line running from aberdeen to ballater. Did 35 miles tonight in 4 hours and im exhausted. Anyone up to similar silly challenges? ::)
Nooooooooooooooo!! But well done you!! Get tired looking at shoe laces.... :-\Lottie
I hope Mac that the sleepers had been taken up. I can imagine you juddering along for four hours ;D
Lottie I'm with you - I can move my eyes ::)
eek - sounds painful! Bike saddles are much too small. Give me a horse saddle any day!
How long do you have to train? good luck!
Haha yes the sleepers are long gone, its a path for cyclists and horse riders now. Going to go for it at the end of the month or in october.
Faint!
OMG - that's so soon.
Now I like challenges, but...
(If I was closer, I'd join you on a horse - let him/her do the hard work and I can enjoy the scenery!)
I am with you in spirit on this one Mac, leave the girlies to paint their nails (he he), while you get out there and do some serious stuff.
Do you intend to keep the cycling going after this ride, I presume so?
All the best, go go go!
Derekthefox :D
May I be the first "girlie" to object Derek! (I don't paint my nails, Mr Aqui does it for me, when I can be bothered to do them, which hasn't been for two years now!)
Nails! I wonder how many of us on here ave nails. Can't remember last time I grew a decent one. I have hands like a navvy. I went out t'other day and thought I'd wear a skirt. Shock horror I know. My husband had forgot I had legs ;D So I thought I'd put some tights on as my legs are so flippin bruised and battered from lotty activity, plus my knees were a very dodgy muddy colour and I couldn't get rid of it even when scrubbed with Vim! Where was I? Oh yes back to the story. So anyway there I was putting me tights on and rippppppppppp - as my hands were so rough. I will really have to stop damaging my pinkies in this fashion and adopt more girlie pursuits ;D
The image of you srubbing your knees with vim will last a long time :)

My little jest ladies, am I forgiven? :D

Never been one for girlie girls myself - all nails and hair. I think that's one of the joys of this place. Nobody who constantly has muck under their finger nails can be considered a girlie girl. ;D
By the way - Good luck Mac. Fancy joining you myself - love to spend time on my bike :o but I fear that the cycle ride oop north might knacker me before we got going.
Wow brilliant Mac! And here was me thinking how good I was doing 20 lengths in the baths last evening...after not swimming for 4 years. I feel a bit feeble now hee hee!
I have nails. I wear clumpy boots by day and wee sparkley high heel shoes by night. Well not every night. Only the nights when I go out on the razzle.( not very often :( ) I drink pints though ;) :o :-*
Clumpy boots and pints eh? (http://bestsmileys.com/wow/4.gif)
Whats wrong with clumpy boots and pints? Here, I'll show you my latest boot look. I think I balance the more rugged pursuits with a touch of girlyness and afterall I do hold out my pinky when drinking my pint!
Ha ha ha I love em Heldi!
Derekthefox :D
Thanks Derek. I love em too! Not sure about me legs on that shot though (cringe).
I'm really sorry, but pink booties can't be described as clumpy ;)
I'm with you on the pints though :)
My local is an excellent Bateman's Pub so if anybody fancies coming round for a pint in their clumpy boots, please do! (http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/2.gif)
MIL was from Lincolnshire originally + OH keeps threatening to take me there, so maybe!
Good on you Mac. I can't even ride a bike...never had one as a child :'( :'( (cue the violins) and then I told myself I'd learn before I got to 30, didn't happen obviously, and now there's a chance that I may be going to Amsterdam for a few months, and what's their main method of transport....BIKES. That'll learn me! Now I have to find a class that teaches old cats new tricks ???
M.
Oh shucks guys thanks for the encouraging words.
Derek- im glad im cycling and not running, i think id die after a mile of running.
Aqui- if only all horse riders were like you- im afraid i seem to have made an arch nemesis who thinks that she and her horse have sole ownership of the track- shes so mean to me :(
Maddy- stick at it, use stabilizers or get a trike (they have loads of them in amsterdam ;D )
Thanks all
John
good luck rotm :)
H where did you get those boots?~they're fab ;D ;D
A couple of things about this thread (which has made me smile a lot!):
1) Good luck with the cycling, 'return of the mac', makes me feel incredibly lazy.
2) I think your 'celery helpline' avatar is one of the funniest I have ever seen!
3) I love Heldi's pink boots and outfit (and legs!)! Very fetching!!
Keep up the good work!!
Hi GW I got my pink walking boots when on hols in the Lakes. I saw them one evening in the window of a shop in Pooley Bridge and went back the very next day and nabbed a pair! ( I love my footwear folks I couldn't resist)They have "gri sport" on the label if that's any help. They extremely comfortable as well as cutting a dash on the walking scene heehee!
Thanks Lord Steve for mentioning my boots and my legs in a favourable light ;)
Diana I might have to show you my pink wellies if you are not careful!!
Thank you steve, my avatar is so flattered ;D
ill send it to you if youd like (and if i can figure out how to)
John
