Title: Fennel seed
Post by: Bill Door on September 05, 2005, 21:30:27
Ok I have seeds all over the garden.  Well you know what I mean ::).  I have a few seed heads and I want to save the seeds to use in cooking.  Anyone have any practical experience of this and can tell me "best practice" ;)

We are not talking tons here (or even LBs)

thanks in advance

Bill

Paper bag until they dry, then transfer some to an airtight container. I say some, because if you put them in an airtight container straight away and they are not dry enough they go mouldy. Or I suppose you can freeze them if its for cooking, I freeze green herbs in individual ice cube trays, then transfer to a plastic bag, so you get little portions.

Apparently, according to Worral Thompson I think, the bulb fennel seeds are not very good in cooking so use the herb fennel for seeds for cooking  :)

Nothing ventured, nothing gained eh.  I always try things.  Even if it don't work at least you've tried  :)
