does any body know where these beauties originated from????? I have 2 large ones in my garden and the colours this year are beautiful, the best I have ever seen
I hope you mean Liriodendron tulipifera. It is a North American native from the N.E. states. Also called Whitewood
LIRIODENDRON Â Â TULIP TREE
This genus is native to the Americas and Asia. A fast growing hardy tree, with 3 lobed leaves that turn clear yellow in autumn. They have yellow/green tulip like flowers which bloom in late May early June.
They enjoy most soils and are commonly found in parks.
I did find an artical given dates when it first come to this country but have lost it. But think it said Virginia had it as it national tree. Also takes 10 years to flower
Teresa
:( thank you both for that info i have been here 5 years and never seen them flower yet so maybe soon
I will post a piccie when they do
Hope you`re luckier than I am. I`ve had maine for nearly 40 years, it`s over 30 ft tall, and the flowers are so greenish that it`s impossible to distinguish them from the foliage
