Bad news. Went to the lotty on Sat of the bank hol w/e. Was met in the car park by the secretary who escorted me to my ploy only to find that, no the shed had not been broken into again, but the gas people are escavating an old gas main which runs (according to their map) 3' inside our boundry fence. There was a huge digger and the hole was at leat 10' inside the fence, about 3' from our shed. Compost heap missing - presumed dug up and still no sign of the main. The forman was walking round with a huge metal detactor thing shaking his head and looking puzzled.
Good news bit. Managed to fill a s/m basket with various beans, a super sized courgette/marrow, another cue and a small bucket of cherry toms. Got talking to the gas man and he said for our troubles he 'might just forget to take away some of those metal barriers' that they section off road works with. About 6' by 5'. Fruit cage I thought. Not such a bad day.
shame about the compost but getting a fruit cage out of it is not bad going! :)
Can you ask them to leave the digger instead it will make your life easier.
There were 2 diggers and a thing with a huge scoop on the front today. Gas main still hiding. Fingers and toes crossed re shed.
Must be a massive inconvenience Baggy, but I suppose it has got to be done. Don't know how I would feel if that happened at my plot. Hope at least you get something out of it and don't lose too much. busy_lizzie
you know tha strip of land you always wanted to cultivate but thought it was too much digging, say you have always hit a big piece of metal when you dug there. will be dug in no time.... ;D
You know that wildlife pond you meant to dig...
The hole is about 12' deep, runs the width ot two plots - 24' or more - and it 's about 12' wide and growing. Didn't see the man with the beeping metal detector thing last time round. Does this mean they have found it I wonder or are they just going to trash the whole thing?
To make matters worse someone stole the courgette/marrow thing (which my neice had carved 'Norman' into, she likes to name them when they get a certain size, from my back garden !. Bloody cheek)
you can always rely on Wrady being positive about the situation.
she always looks on the bright side!
i think i like her new name.wrady...suits her..
Wrady-Profit of Doom'!!!! ;D
Digger is still there and they are no further forward. It's really offputting and I no longer look forward to going down to the lotty. I think I need a kick up the bum to get me back into gear.
i think you'd be within your rights to insist they return the plot to how they found it baggy...
what does your committee think?
They said they would flatten the dug up bit and replace the 'Berlin wall' which was a feww upended pallets that restrained the compost (compost which is now missing). We are the closest plot to the road and the only thing that separates us now is a chain link fence. Before there was 6 - 8 foot of brambles and nettles which worked in our favour. If they flatten the previously brambled bit it will mean that our shed will be 10 foot into the plot and look obvious to any oiks from the road. I am trying not to lose heart but ........
chin up our baggy! ;D
faint heart never won a fair allotment!-dig for victory matey and you will soon be back to enthusiastic!
:-*
Hey Baggy,
I've only just found this thread, sorry you are having such a rotten time. :(Â
I agree with kitty, think they should return your plot to as it was. Could suggest they deliver you a nice load of well rotted manure too.
It's easy for us to tell you not to get disheartened, I'm sure we all would feel the same but I'm sure you'll bounce back. The problem is the likes of the gas board, electricity board and bt haven't got a clue half the time, so they just dig away until they hit something! Ooops I forgot the water board. BT dug a big hole in our road a few years ago, no one knew why not even BT and our phone was out of order for nearly two weeks.
Give that lovely Merlin of yours a cuddle, that's bound to make you feel a bit better :)
MM
give us an update bagheera!
Latest update .........
The hole remains unchanged. As a result of this we have not wanted to work the plot as acess around the shed is impossible and also when the workmen are there it feels like either you are being overlooked or they have trash radio on so loud you can hear yourself think.
On sat we went to the plot with a big roll of weed membrane to cover the fruit bit. Met by the secretary and was told to clear up or get out in not so many words. My FIL had heart surgery last week and contrary to his belief the lotty is not my life. On Tuesday I was diagnosed with pnuemonia and pluerosy and I am not allowed out to play.
So all in all a crap time
Oh Baggy, just found this too. I do hope things pick up for you soon, sound like you're having a rottern time. . Concentrate on getting well first, then give 'em merry hell. Will happily charge down in my pink JCB , twirling axe, can look quite scary if wound up and pointed in right direction. Take care and big hug. Lottie
baggy I'm so sorry to hear your latest news. :'( I agree with lottie, concentrate on getting better and then let 'em have it. some people can be such complete b*****ds.

Thanks guys for the warm thoughts. A friend from work dropped round with a bouquet earlier on and I burst into tears. I know its pathetic isn't it ? Then I read your wishes and started leaking again. This is so unlike my "b*ll*x to them" attitude I can't work it out. Lotty & MM you are welcome to come and kick ass(bring that cat and the kids - we need reinforcements. I will not roll over and take it). So there.
