Title: Blown sprouts
Post by: discovery on August 29, 2005, 16:45:48
Does anyone know why my sprouts have blown, It was a new plot and I had to dig it this year, could that be the reason why?

Possibly, they do like a firm soil. But do not discard your plants, even blown sprouts are still edible, just treat them like small cabbages for cooking purposes.

When I plant my sprouts out,I first dig a trench abt  1ft deep, plant the sprouts in the bottom FIRMLY  ;) then backfill as they grow. They will make new roots at each underground leaf axis and will be very firm in the ground by the time the trench is filled....Alan

The opposite of a perfect sprout - like a very baggy (little) cabbage.

Not planting firmly enough and too rich a soil are the prime causes apparently...
