After digging my early potatoes, and clearing more ground (used to be an old raspberry patch, hadn't seen a spade for about 20 yrs), I went all enthusiastic ::) and sowed green manure (fenugreek)... I started digging it in this last week but it isn't easy as it is also marestail (horsetail?) infested and I've got to sort out all the different roots. :'(
It's sort of a slow process and now I have received loads of brassicas and... my question is......
Can I put them in in that new bed once I've got rid of the horsetail and I've jumped on it a lot to firm it? I thought I had to wait 2 weeks before planting anything but now... it's urgent!!!! And BTW I'm not finding it easy at all to bury the wretched fenugreek , does it matter if some is still on the surface? ???
Thanks for any help.
D (panicking!)
Firstly don't panic or worry. I don't think you've posted this in the wrong place and I think you should give it a spin with your brassicas in the bed pretty much as it is...
Chances are you won't really get rid of the marestail anyway. Just remove what you can, dig over what's left and plant them brassicas good and firm. The green manure won't trouble them and you could hoe off the marestail as it re-appears to reduce competition.
Let us know how you go...
