Title: Ugly babies!
Post by: Mrs Ava on August 27, 2005, 17:22:15
My darling Ava needed to prune back some of the weeping willow which stands in the middle of the lawn in our back garden.

It has become a giant!

Up he ventured with my shouting encouragement.

As he reached the middle of the tree, look what was looking back at him!

Mummy (or daddy!) pigeon was sat in a neighbouring tree watching our every move, and once the pruning and tidying up had been completed, she came back and is once again happily perched on the edge of her nest with her 2 babies.

The tree is a godsend actually Lottie.  I know it shades the garden, but I try to use the shade to grow shade loving plants, and of course, it means the kids can play out quite safely in the noon day sun (yeah, well, when it remembers to shine that is) and they are in and out of shade and keeping cool.

You should be aiding the mother in feeding them...I hear pigeon pie is quite tasty! ;)

That's amazing Emma - I'm so glad the mother returned.  When my hub was pruning the large hawthorn we have in our front garden he came across a nest with about 6 eggs in it.  I told him he should have waited until later in the year to prune as the mother might now desert the nest.  I do hope she didn't.

Great photos - pretty good of 'action man' as well :D ;) :)

Great pics.  Yesterday I walked across the road to speak to a  neighbour who is very ill.  He said " have a look up there" Lo and behold  a bird (Derek said it was a dove) has built a nest between the bracket  fixed to his house wall  and his  sky dish support.  Will  try and get pic, can't see a lot from ground but  Derek has a clear view from his bedroom window..
