Title: about chillis
Post by: Heldi on August 25, 2005, 12:01:50
I've given my friend some chillis from my Firecracker plants. She asked me if she could grow some plants from the seeds of the chillis I've given her. I said I would check first with you folks to make sure that there aren't any problems in doing that. I'm thinking disease or not producing a crop, things like that?

If you like a bit of heat I can thoroughly recommend these chillis. They are getting hotter as the plant matures.  :o

If the plant is an F1 maybe not.  If it's not a hybrid then she should be ok to germinate the seed.  You can germinate F1 seed but it doesn't come true so she might not get a Firecracker  :)

The other thing is that chilis will cross-pollinate. So if she's growing them with other varieties of chilis, she might end up with a hybrid.

It may not come true if you've grown several varieties together.

Just googled and found that Firecracker is an F1 hybrid so not looking hopeful for your friend.
