Got an offer of a couple of small bales of straw ;D
I know I can put some of it in amongst the compost heap...what else can I do with it?
All ideas welcome!!
think I read on here earlier that you can pack it round tender plants for winter protection.
I use it on my pathways, to stop them being soggy underfoot! I also cover my potatoes with the pathway material, then re-do my pathways with fresh.
Straw can be put around strawberry plants, to keep the fruits clean. Â Could also do that with squosh when trying to get them to ripen, keeps them off damp soil!
The other thing I do is with rhubarb. Â When trying to 'blanche' the fruit stems, using a bottomless dustbin, I put in straw to encourage the stems to grow longer up to the light. Â Gives extra pink bits! :D
Daisy is correct too, its great stuff for insulation, and warmth, to keep off the frosts. ;)
see - am learning aren't I!! ;D
Oooh me too!!
I knew straw was "A Good Thing" but then when faced with a baleful wasnt sure what to do!!!
A4A to the rescue!!
