I've just had my very first lesson in a microlight!! It was fantastic, wonderful, terrifying and the best hour ever!!! Felt like I was sat in an armchair, tied to a lawn mower and hurled into the sky!! Flew at 1,500 ft!! Above the birds!!! Flew over the countryside, and along the coast, past lowestoft and over a sand bar where the seals were sunbathing!! I'm hooked and I've booked my next lesson, now just have to sell a child to pay for it.......But I DID IT!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Lottie ;D ;D ;D
Lottie, that looks and sounds wonderful, it must be a magnificent experience, and over such interesting countyside and coast too. It must have been brilliant looking at the seals. Enjoy your next lesson!
I have been up in a hot air balloon a few times and it is wonderful for getting garden design ideas, do you have time to look in the microlight or is it too quick?
Wow lottie,
Apart from being impressed, perhaps I am also jealous!
No not really, I am absolutely terrified of heights, it takes all my willpower to catch a flight abroad.
Shame you had to sell the child, which one did you opt for (sorry that was cruel of me!).
I wish you the very best on your next flight, keep us posted !
Derektheveryimpressedfox
I know exactly how you feel Lottie. I had one lesson in a small aircraft a while ago and I have been saving ever since to take up lessons properly. Not getting very far though.

Awww thanks all! Several hours later, and still as high as a kite!!! Feels realy fast and wobbley taking off, but when up there, still wobbley, but can see everything, Tulippa, was wonderful!!! Derek, scared of heights too!! Have weird vertigo where want to hurl myself of anything high!! But this, nothing like it. Redclanger not going out or eating for next 6 years!!! And Green wizzard thanks hun!!!!! One embarassing moment though....... Lottie :-\
sounds excellent. im off to blackpool in spetember to fly a little cessna like the one in your bottom pic for an hour. cant wait!
LOTTIE!
YOU NUTTER! (well done)
I get vertigo stepping off the curb, well done to you ;)
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Thanks! Nearly midnight and still really wide awake and excited!! going to feel like poo tomorrow............
Lottie ::)
Well done Lottie, sounds like you had a wonderful time up there. You are brave ;D ;D ;D ;D ;DÂ
now it is time to land and back down to earth. You got to work to get your next flight??
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Bless you , Carol, you right. Must wind down a bit................But........... CAN'T COS I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Lottie ;D :-*
For all of you scared of height types out there, like Lottie so am I - terrified. But it's different when you are up there, the height does not seem to matter. It's just blindingly exhilerating. I am so envious of Lottie today and so pleased that she had such a good time.
Lottie...............the slight mishap......you never filled the flying suit did you
(I am handing round the pegs for noses as we speak ) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
does that mean instructor is in shed now too.........??
Way to go lottie I am proud of you ......... kotc
SO JEALOUS! The family won't let me do it - they need the pension!!
Well done Lottie :D, sounds like fun but not sure I'd enjoy it, terrified of flying.
Well done.
I hope to be going ballooning for the first time this Sunday over Cheshire / North Wales weather permitting.
Cheers
Alan
:o
Well you're braver than I am! ;D
Caz
Still ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D, but thanks for all your lovely support!! Tring to work out how to tell my family, Tim.......decided to keep stum for while.... :-X Couldn't you say you were off to lottie for few hours and come back with manic grin and hair all over the place!!!! Instructor said up in air safest place to be, more likely to crash on drive home than up there. Let's hope!! Lottie ;D ;D ;D
There are old pilots and there are bold pilots
But there are no old bold pilots ;D ;D
Well done Lots :)
Well done; the memory of your first flight and, one day, your first solo will stay with you for ever. Yes, flying is a lot easier than driving. I have both pilots' license and drivers' license and have clocked up more hours flying than driving (gave up driving years ago) ..... and there are less idiots in the air!
Can you teach me how to fllllyyyyyy? Very envious Shirley!
Thanks Shirley!! Must admit to coming down with a bang this morning, must have been gardening in rain that did it, but keep thinking about cost and stuff. But whatever I decide, I still flew, and it was incredible. ;D And don't think I'll be able to stay away!!! Lottie
Lotty and Adam If you join the air cadets you get FREE flying lessons. My son had lessons in a Bulldog aircraft and actually flew in an F16 fighter jet (in the cockpit) and they flew out over Germany and refuelled. He was really chuffed and was only about 14 years old when he did it :)
There's a thought, Wardy. But wouldn't I be too old? Sure Adam would be fine though. Lottie
Adam - I hope this isn't too much of a personal question, just being nosey after the comment above and looked at your profile.
Are you really 15? You sure know your stuff if you are, when you mentioned school I assumed you were a teacher!
And not sure Lottie would manage to get into the air cadets either would she. I mean she is getting on a bit now {GG}..mind you....<thinking>...yes, if she carries on maybe membership of the air cadavers could be obtained... {WEG}
ON another note...nice picture of the air suit and i cannot help myself in asking...when you said you were still wobbly Lottie, was it the wobbly bits that it made it hard to get the suit on ;)
SORRY Really, I am. Very impressed that you went flying. Do you get the idea that maybe I'm just a little bit envious???
;D Iain ;D
Oooooh Lottie well done! You are so brave. I see microlites fly over our house most days and I think it looks scarey!
Well, Icy....You've helped with my decision....think a swift flight in your direction armed with soggy lettuce may be in order ;D ;D ;D Sort out a landing strip at lottie and I'll crash land and take you for spin!!! Literally T.... ;)The suit was a bit of a problem, took off boots etc then was told that the trousers had zip at sides..... ::)!! Son also told me to please keep clothes on.....Wasn't intending to strip fly ;) Thanks Heidi!! Lottie ;D
Is there a resevist air force?
But then again, just think what would happen up the lottie if you got a six month stint in Iraq? Maybe that has answered Yellow Petal's question elsewhere.
I think you are too old for Service Lottie, unless you have an essential skill, eg Doctor. The normal age limit for enlistment is 35, generally limited to 30. The medical requirements are also very strict, how I managed to enrol is beyond anybodies guess.
But with the current attitude towards call-up, that is probably not a bad thing eh?
I am certainly glad I am out of it now, although at the time, I loved every minute of it . . .
Good luck with your next flight anyway!
Derekthefox :D
Hi Lottie
I hope I am not too late to say "Well done" 8) and here is to the next 100 I hope !
You just need to raise the money. ::)
Saying that, I wonder if there is a market in soggy lettuces ?! ??? ;) ;D ;D
LOL!!!! No way Marianne, love hearing from you! Especially when you're polite enough not to mention that I'm over the hill, unlike some I won't mention.!!! :o :o :o I've decided you're as young as you tell yourself you are, so sweet 16 here I come! 8) Lottie ;D
Lottie,
I do like positive people and you are one of them.
I feel pretty much the same (very young ;D), it's just the mirror's reflection that tells me different ::) ::) ::) ::)
That is why I enjoy every day I am sent.
Take care and happy flying ::) :o ;D ;D ;D
Thanks Hun! I don't use a mirror, just look at pic on wall of when younger.........pretend it's mirror!! ;) No other way to live, in my view!! Toying with idea I'd actually like to try something else, next not sure what though. ??? Lottie ;D
What about abseiling? I abseiled down from the Humber bridge once. Climbing over the railings at the top was so scarey, then dangling mid air was mad.
OMG Lottie - that's amazing. I'm kind of jealous, but think I'd be terrified. I'm ok with heights, as long as I feel safe and that thing looks way too open for my liking. Must've been a great feeling, though.
Lottie. Like all the other members I think you are very brave and you must be over the moon BUT and I repeat BUT has anyone thought of the poor guy/girl who was teaching Lottie. ??? ??? ??? ???Only joking or am I ... Lorna.
:o :o :o LOL!! He was very laid back, probably had a bit of a headache after listening to me scream on take off!! And then the constant barage of questions! "What does this do?" How do I do that?" "OOOOOO look at that!" " Can we go over there now?...." :-\ But he didn't pretend to be fully booked when arranging next one, and this time, I'll be in the drivers seat.........!!!" ;D ;D ;D Lottie
OMG!!!!!!! ;D
;)! Lottie ;D
I admire you too Lottie. ;D
I am afraid I suffer badly from vertigo :o :Pand would not be able to do it, even if you paid me. In fact, "when I was younger" I would go on all of these mad machines at the fairground but would not dream of doing it nowadays ,,,
Anyway, best of luck to you ! ;) :D ;D
Marianne, nothing to admire, just too much curiosity! Like I said, I have weird vertigo where want to jump off tall buildings! But this was noting like it, seems to be that cos I'm not connected to ground, it's OK ???. Very strange...... But thank you. Lottie ;D
Crikey, YOU are going to be in the driving seat!!!!! Maybe I won't go to Essex this weekend in case you get lost. I'm sure you just couldn't resist the temptation to drop a soggy lettuce.....or dive bomb me into a briar patch or something {WEG}
Iain
Just tell me where nearest bramble patch is.... (http://bestsmileys.com/evil/3.gif) .... Oh yes, and wind speed, weather predictions, coordinates erm nearest flying field and radio bands and...... ;) Lottie ;D
