Title: butternut flower at last
Post by: Nathan on August 12, 2005, 10:08:02
Finally I have a flower!  And about a thousand more buds forming.   Should I cut off growing tips to encourage the squash to grow?   Also, should I stop watering to encourage more flowering?   Any help appreciated.

Just let it go crazy until you have enough squash set as fruit then trim it back

I read this with interest as, like you Nathan, I am in the same boat.

Flowers but no fruit.

Hello Debs

I think I spoke too soon because my one and only flower has now fallen off.   My theory is that there's been too much rain and not enough sun.  I intend to test this theory by planting them again every year for the next 20...

Alternatively can anybody reccommend a variety and supplier that is reliable and gives nice early butternuts?
