Title: tomato question.
Post by: TomGood on August 10, 2005, 20:14:17
Hi everyone.  I'm new here and have found the info on this site to be very helpful.

However I would like to ask a question about my tomatoes.  I have noticed that down near the bottom of the plant so of the branches will turn yellow.  I have been plucking them off but what is causing this yellowing?

There is a thread about blight on here and I am really starting to worry now.  My toms are potted and today I noticed my first little tom beginning to grow.  Well chuffed.  Any advice please!!

HEy Tom, and welcome ;D!! I'm no tomato expert myself, but are you feeding them? And I think it's quite normal to lose several of the lower leaves, bare in mind, up til this year I've lost all my toms to blight  ::)!! I'm sure someone will have the answer. Lottie

Certainly take them off, if at the bottom. But doubtful if it's more than a nutrient deficiency. What sort of yellowing?

Also, it is normal for bottom leaves o start looking a bit grotty by about the time the 3rd truss sets.

Hi Guys!!

Thanks for the replies so far, they have been very helpful.  Just as a heads up I have been feeding the plants with tomato feed but only once a week.  There are several trusses on the plant that are all in flower.  Am I not feeding them enough as this was a concern?

One of the flowers has dropped out and I can see a little green tom popping out.  I don't understand what the term set means yet but any info on that would also be helpful.

tomgood, havent you been a bit late in starting your toms? mine are flourishing with fruit (not all ripe yet though) i've found that if you take off bottom leave, remember to nip off growing shoot after about five trusses showing and then take off the odd leaf here and ther, they'll do fine, remember to snap you leaves though or apparantly you could get problems
