If no aubs, at least we'll have some peppers? Red spider permitting.
Hey tim LOVERLY PEPPERs :o. Keep those red spiders off!
Good Luck!

Smashing looking crop Tim. I have peppers too, but mine are only in a cold frame, covers now removed, so are cropping later and not as prolifically. Still, there will be a crop, and less risk of red spider.
Nice looking crop Tim,peppers here are cropping nicely now-aubies?-humm :-[

Derek & Tim, I am also growing sweet peppers ina cold frame for the first time. They've been a pale green colour for ages. 2 are in pots, stood in Wickes buckets, one is in pot on a tray. The 2 in Wickes buckets are showing sort of darkish brown markings. Doesn't look like disease but I don't know. Any thoughts?
Tim,
They look fantastic! I started mine off a little late and I'm only now getting flowers so I'm not sure that there is time for fruit this year :( Still, it's all lessons to be learned for next year :)
M.
Jenny - brownish/purplish markings are quite normal in some of the older varieties.
Tim - Thank you. This might sound really stupid, but can I expect them to go red? or green? haven't picked any yet, will they be ripening soon?
Coo. Green with envy.
Jenny - I'm not going to take another in-focus one - is this what you mean??
These are mini-peppers & the red one was brown 3-4 days ago.
In passing, Emma - the Sweet Aji are at last starting fruit!
Here's my efforts Tim. They are outside on the plot - are they in danger of red spider mite or is that only in greenhouses?
ooh! periwinkle, i was just reading this thread thinking 'i haven't got a greenhouse or coldframe, :'( my peppers must be doomed' and then i saw your lovely picture.
are they just growing outside on the plot?
no glass etc?
you don't live in Austalia or somewhere?
what i'm really asking is, am i in with a chance of a crop?
Tara xx
I have surrounded my peppers on the plot with double glazing panels so they make a cloche without a roof. I have watered, fed, coaxed, cajoaled and threatened them and they are still pathetic. any ideas ?
i'm feeding mine with organic tomato feed, (as suggested on the bottle )
had no flowers, fed twice and suddenly had nine flowers ;D
Tara xx
i think i may move to wales !!

periwinkle - "Spider Mites suck the plant juices resulting in mottling of the leaves and sickly looking growth. When the infestation becomes advanced, fine webbing appears on new growth. Eventually leaves turn brown and drop off. They are generally found indoors, but may damage plants outdoors in hot weather during July and August. "
daveandtara - seedlings grown on windowsill, but planted out on the plot under a plastic mini greenhouse £9.99 from Lidls - much too early I thought but they sat there and didn't die! Took "greenhouse" off when weather finally warmed up. I've feed with liquid seaweed 3/4 times, but mostly they have thrived on neglect. They really took off after we had some really decent rain followed by sun. Think like most things its mostly luck! Aubs given same treatment are still sitting there doing nothing much......
Tim - lovely pic, but mine don't look like that, the brown is streaky .... BUT in the last day or so they've started to turn red , so all OK anyway. Thanks a lot for your help.
Back to Sweet Aji -
We cleared them out, disappointingly green, a month ago. Since then, they've either been on a bench outside or in the larder, & they are ripening nicely - & still crisp!
Impressive - but I wonder why no wrinkles?
Old age doesn't necessarily bring wrinkles? Of course, depends a bit upon where you look!
Well, those peppers do look nicely crisp!
