Title: King Edwards - when to dig?
Post by: redimp on August 09, 2005, 10:40:15
My King Edwards were planted during the Easter Holidays.  When should they be ready for harvest bearing in mind they are listed as an early maincrop?

just treat as any maincrop spud, wait for the flowers, then they will die and the foliage will die back. Lift then! this is anytime from now onwards into september.

Remember to leave them in the ground for a couple of weeks after the foliage dies down to give the skins time to set fully.  If you lift them before the skins have set they will not keep.  You can check by lifting one plant and rubbing the surface of the potatoes with your thumb; if the skin rubs away they`re not set.
