Title: Black fly
Post by: Val on August 03, 2005, 18:33:05
They have been a real pest this year, I usually blast them off with the hose, except we had a ban, so I've been plucking up courage to go out and rub them off...oh yuk. Finally had enough went out to the runners earlier and not a black fly in sight. They were covered yesterday. Whoever or whatever has had them, must've been very hungry to eat that lot in a day. Good though. ;D

Don't remind me.... the red ants have gone to town this year and I keep finding farmed colonies of black fly on all my beans, the sweetcorn... it was bad enough to get me to the garden centre to buy some fatty acid organic insecticide.  I've had to spray that on the beans. (Luckily the corn had large numbers of ladybirds which seem to have solved the problem on those plants).

I think I'm winning. Just...

Well luckily these weren't farmed, so I suppose the predators had a free hand without being attacked by the ants. They are a pain in the butt .

I have lots of ants, lots of ladybirds and no blackfly.  Have I got hard ladybirds?  ;D
