Title: Edible or not?
Post by: Shallot on August 01, 2005, 21:39:43
Hi,

I have a flowering Crab apple tree (Malus x purpurea) Neville Copeman and it has  abundant beautiful little magenta apples on it. But i am not sure whether they are purely ornamental or whether i can whip something up with them.  Any Notions?

I don't think any of them are actually poisonous, so it would be worth trying them for crab apple jelly, or to set other jams and jellies. They won't taste too good raw I expect.

Sour beyond belief! But useful gelling agent if you're in the habit of making rowan berry jelly...
