Post by: swainclubber on July 31, 2005, 18:22:55
hi, please can anybody tell me approx how long it takes for a chilli to be fully ripe (from when pollination is achieved).

I have an orange habanero, with about 20 small chillies on it (they dont seem to swell too fast lol)..still got lots of blossom drop too!

cheers folks

Hi Ben.  It's hard to say - the more sun they get, the quicker they ripen in my experience.  Just be patient.    :)

My chillies were taking ages to ripen, today the first one has gone red. They've had green chillies on them since about beginning of June I think it was.

Hi Ben.  My habaneros are way behind my other chillies, although all were sown at the same time.  Habs are just slower.  I remember last year thinking they'd never ripen but eventually the first one turned orange mid August (photo 25 Aug) and the others followed very quickly thereafter.

I have found it takes 50 days on average from pollination to ripening, like tomatoes.
