I know I didn't officially enter the sunflower competition but as Bristol was so windy today, I sent Mr.Dibber up the ladders to measure the tallest sunflower before the wind snapped it in half, so I don't think the sunflower will grow anymore, mine is about 12 foot in height and is peaking through the bathroom window.

Bl**dy hell fire! Now that is a monster sunflower!! How lovely to be able to gaze out of your bathroom window at that! (the flower obviously! :-\ ;D) What variety is it, being a red 'un not a yella job?
WOW! And so well-trained too - stopped growing right by the window!
Hearty congrats!
;D ;D ;D
show-off ;D ;D ;D
thankfully mr d's not scared of heights ;D
EJ not sure what there callled just bought 69p packet of seeds from focus and some of the flowers are red and some are yellow on the same plant, they where well worth the money
Absolutely! I love the ones with lots of side shoots as then you have some for cutting! Wonderful! Mine in the garden is about 6 foot, so would win the 'average' competition. Blame the bl**dy slugs and snails of Essex who heard there was a succulent meal going and hurried their slimey little buts this way!
As I recall, mine were Giant Single - they've all come up with multiple heads and assorted colours as well - even on the same plant! For instance, of my two tallest, one is yellow and the other is that wonderful paintbox shade - burnt sienna!
Could it just be this year's growing conditions I wonder?
:o I found it amazing that a sunflower survived the tornado in Birmingham :o 8) tough as old boots aren't they? ;D
was so windy in Bristol on firday Roy thats why i took photos the sunflowers were almost bending in half they are tough old boots
