Have a lok at this: http://channels.aolsvc.co.uk/news/article.adp?id=20050728111709990001 . It's about 3 miles from where I am; here,we had torrential rain and thunder, but it didn't last long. There was one about the same distance in the other direction a few years ago, but this one's done a lot more damage from the sound of it. I'm just hoping my plot hasn't been flooded, but I've got a bad chest infection and my family won't let me out of the house.
::) Robert I'm getting an advert for AOL on that link, so try this...

My Daughter heard of this in Halesowen around 2.30pm whilst in an iron mongers shop and his boss had phoned him to tell him a tornado may be coming his way from Mosely and to shut the shop.
We had only heavy down pours of rain no thunder or tornado's thank goodness. :o
Gosh ! You'd think you'd misheard wouldn't you? "Tornado from Moseley" :o You'd think you'd misheard - " tomatoes and muesli" ;D
Seriously though, it was very dramatic with 130 mph winds and it came out of the blue like the storms of 87 which I got caught in. One my own I might add. I was bleeding terrified and thought I;d never get home. It makes me shudder even thinking about it
Hope all your peeps are ok :)
My son lives in Moseley. He and his family were on holiday in Cornwall when it happened but drove back last night. They have damage to the roof, windows blown out, debris and damage in the house, their car in the drive is a writeoff and a tree has come down completely taking out their garden - which my daughter in law has been lovingly creating over the past year. Fortunately the tree fell inches away from the house - slightly different angle and it would have damaged the building. But - other people have suffered worse and nobody's hurt!! Apparently the only surviving plant in the garden is my grandson's sunflower - still standing tall. Yes!!
Sunflower survives tornado. Wow :o It's awful isn't it about the happenings in Brum. Some houses are so badly damaged they have to come down :( I'm glad your peeps are ok but sorry to hear of their damage :(
Apparently it was the worst ever recorded in Britain.
RB - hope you bees are ok
So do I! I'm sure they are, all we had this side of town was a very heavy downpour, and hives are extremely solidly built. Trouble is, I've got a chest infection and my family haven't let me go and check. I'll be rebelling in the next couple of days, I'm slowly getting over it, and I can't stand being cooped up.
I just about managed to get to the plot today, though I was fit for nothing by the time I arrived. From the state of the shed it was obvious that there was a flood the day of the tornado (I'm not surprised), but there isn't any visible damage. My worry is that on previous occasions vegetable roots have been badly damaged by flooding. apart from that, the weeds have been growing like mad while I've been away, and after severalweeks of neglect due to work, the state of the place is disgraceful. The bees look strong and healthy, but I was in no fit state to heft bee boxes unfortunately, or I'd have had some more honey off.
Robert I do hope you are feeling better. Your family are concerned and you should listen to them Yes I know it is hard BUT you are the most important person in their lives. Be a good boy!!!!! Wishing you well Lorna.
I'm getting there slowly, but I can't sleep properly, keep coughing something awful, and some days I can't concentrate. I just about managed my five hours GCSE marking today, but this is the first time I've managed to spend on the computer doing my own stuff.
