Just started a week's holiday today, looking forward to some pleasant gardening. Arrived at the allotment at 0845 this morning, flask of coffee, hedge dressing. Within half an hour, the rain had started. I continued as it got heavier, sluicing down in sheets. After an hour I was totally soaked and getting very cold.
I know I'm mad, but eventually agreed, that was enough ! So threw the towel in.
Grumble over, thank you for letting me share that! :D

hehehe. How long have we all been moaning about the lack of rain and our arid allotments and gardens, and now we have the rain, it is driving us all mad! It is raining here in Essex at the moment and I really do need to cut the grass and hack back a few of the shrubs that have grown like mad since the rains came!
What is the outlook for the week Derek?
More rain into the weekend, here in the Midlands, dont know about further ahead. I have lawns and hedges all begging to be cut.
Lovely picture with your Nan, EJ !
Heavy rain is forecast for the area of Derek's allotment for the next week. Â The rain will be heavy and constant but will clear up and there will be bright sunshine from Monday morning onwards. Â (I think that coincides with Derek's return to work )
Been chucking it down here in Cornwall for the best part of a week now - why doesn't that suprise me? It's the main holiday season, supermarket shelves are empty after about 3pm, roads are jammed and it takes twice as long to get anywhere.
I was trying to finish my dry stone wall, but it's getting squelchy :(
Thanks Wardy, great to have cheerful folk in this forum! :P Not returning to work until next Thursday though, so may still see some sun . . . :D
well has been rainy in bristol to all week but have a little sun today heavy thunder stroms forcast for later
I hope you have a good week off Derek and the rain's not too bad. If so, you'll just have to tidy your shed ;D Oh flip, just remembered my shed has a leak as some of the felt has ripped off :o :o My OH is away so I'll have to get on the shed roof meeself :( Second thoughts, b****r it ;D ;D
There's no pleasing some people ;D
My day off too.....wanted to get more of new lottie dug and have a lovely general potter. Its pouring here in Oldham :'( :'( :'(
Am comforting myself with the image of all my plants binge drinking all the rain and feeling sorry for themselves when I am back at work tomorrow unable to tend to their little needs!! :)
I have been moving all moveable plants from the house and greenhouse into the garden under the shade of our tree because when the sun does show itself again, everything gets so scorched! As you can imagine, the plants are enjoying their showers.
Can't say I am suprised it is raining in Cornwall Deeds! When we came down to Fremington at the start of June, it was soooo hot and sunny, we so weren't prepared and all got sunburnt! I have never known the sun shine so! ;D Tis why the west country is soooooooooo very green!
I'm up in the loft at the mo (don't ask) and the rain is pounding so hard it's deafening. Good job I put me aubergine back under cover. :)
Ah well, I suppose some good must be gained from every circumstance. I couldn't just mope around after getting home, so I nipped over to B & Q for 10 litres of Matt White Emulsion. The wall in front of me is now a lovely pure white again! The rest of the room will be done over a few days, as all the furniture, boxes, demijohns, ironing and clutter get moved around. Â :D
Dek - use the demijohn as a receiving hopper from your comfrey pipe :)
Okay, okay I know it's for making your home brew but if it's getting in the way of your emulsioning then it makes sense to relocate it and put it back into use ;D
I'll get me coat :(
Well, after chatting to you Derek, playing playdough with the kids, making courgette patties and playing seaside with the kids, the sun came out in Essex and I cut the grass! Even after all the rain the ground is so dry and hard, but the deep cracks have gone! I also moved the last of my pepper plants out of the greenhouse and into sundrenched/dappled shade areas of the garden. They are all now smothered in flowers and peppers, along with my aubergines! The, just as the kids and I settled down with milk and cookies to watch carebears, the heavens opened, so hard we lost our satelite signal, so they had a bath instead! Oh happy days.
