Title: Identification: loganberry, tayberry
Post by: jennym on July 27, 2005, 01:07:11
I have 3 plants, but am not sure which is which. Advice appreciated.
No.1 is thornless, prolific, fruit is hard to pull off even when ripe (squishes as you pull it off sometimes) It's a reddish purple when ripe, and quite large, with a sharp taste.

No.2 is finely thorny, prolific, fruit is easy to pull when ripe, purple when ripe, and quite large with a sweet taste.

No.3 is finely thorny, straggly thin growth, fruit is easy to pull when ripe, elongated shape, dark red when ripe and heavenly to taste.

Hi

No 1 - sounds like a raspberry - Glen Moy.  Tall growing with no thorns.

No 2 - Sounds like a tayberry, beautiful fruit

sorry no idea with number 3

Ah, see to me, number one sounds like a tayberry, exactly like my tayberry infact.

If number 2's fruit are dark purple, then could it be a variety of blackberry?

And I have to agree that number 3 sounds like a loganberry.

No.1 is definitely not a raspberry (I have seen Glen Moy, not the same), and No.2 definitely not a blackberry. No.2 is a dusty dark purple colour.
Any more takers for No.1 as a tayberry?
Any more takers for No.3 as a loganberry?
Please - more input from others on No.1 and No.2!!!

Sorry EJ and Jennym, but my tayberry is very thorny. :o

It has small fierce thorns.  :(

Still think No 2 is a Tayberry.  My fruit is very dark in colour.

I wonder if some tayberry or loganberry bushes are thornless and some not?
The colour of number 2 is a dusty purple colour, not black. Does this tie in?
