Title: what's chomping on my basil??
Post by: Rox on July 25, 2005, 15:23:23
Has anyone had a problem with their basil leaves being seriously chomped on?there are holes in the leaves and the edges have been eaten on some as well. At first I found some green and brown caterpillars on them. Once destroyed, I thought my problems were over. However the chomping continues. Could it be more caterpillars I'm not seeing, or are vine weevil also attracted to basil?  any advice appreciated! thx in advance!  :)

I had something similar but on the kitchen windowsill.  Took off loads of tiny green caterpillars (squish squish), thought I'd got them all but holes in the leaves kept appearing, yesterday I found a HUGE fat one that must have been hiding for at least a week!

Have another check, inbetween and under the leaves, I bet there's still one hiding, cheeky s**ds ;D

For me, it was slugs and snails that did it - turned my back, and had just stalks left!
