my grand mother recently told me that her father once showed her and her sister a "magic trick" where he placed two snails on a table in the garden walked a good way away from the table, turned and waved his "magic wand" and the snails promptly exploded! was this a downright fib or was she recounting some disgusting experiment that can be verified? the timing seems to be quite critical. anyone got any ideas how this was achieved?????
sounds like a great party trick

Wonder if he used sodium carbide that they used to run bicycle lamps on? I remember my dad telling me when he was a young boy in the 20s it was considered to be entertainment to feed bread laced with this to seagulls. When mixed with water it becomes explosive. The gulls would take a drink and then....
....nasty way to go. Small boys can be so cruel. :(
However, I don't have a problem with exploding snails ;D
