Snail porridge and pease pudding?
Slugs and snails actually left my peas alone, but by the second picking some did have little maggots inside. Any idea what these were, and any organic tips for dealing with them next year? Still managed to get three good pickings though and have about one meal's worth frozen.

the maggots are from the pea moth which lays its eggs in the flower before the pods have started growing. They are sooooooooooo annoying >:( The bigger you let your peas get, the bigger the maggots get and do more serious damage to whats inside. Whats even more irritating is they hatch out of one pea, and so ruin that one then instead of staying on that one to eat they then move over all the others munching as they go leaving them half finished and spat on uuuuurrrrrrgggghhhh! I think next year I will fleece them to stop the moths! I've prob got enough for 1 person now and am freezing them as I pick them but its annoying opening them trying to play 'guess where the maggot is' :-\
;D Hahaha!! Don't snails just bring the worst out in people !! ;D
So Swede Pea, the snails might as well munch 'em, as the pea moth's already munching away inside !!  And, if you're as lucky as I was last year, the squirrels will help you harvest and pod them !! ;)  ;D
Isn't nature just wonderful !! ::)  ;DÂ
Thats my big brother in the picture :o
Thanks for the info Swede Pea - so basically, next year, fleece them till after they've flowered and the pods are setting, and then defleece them, and net them instead?! I think I need to buy shares in some fleece, plastic and netting companies before next spring ;D
