I was ready the old gardening book last night and it said average pepper yield was 6-10 fruits per plants.
I have about 20 flowers on mine, most of which have set, should i be pinching out the tops, although I can't clearly see one.
Can't find anything about it anywhere.
???
For sweet peppers I would pinch out the tops now, and it seems like a lot of fruit, if they are a big variety, I might reduce the number of peppers to say, ten.
I never pinch the tops out of my plants as they see to do very well with out my intervention. I think this is one of those situations where 50% will, and 50% won't! ;D
I have never pinched out peppers or aubs.
Last year we averaged 14 peppere & 30 aubergines to a
plant.
The book says limit aubs to 5!!
I have a problem with my peppers..
They are now about 10 cm long, but only 1 cm wide! :'(
Some are already starting to turn Red, but they are not bulking out.
They are growing in a plastic greenhouse, which has been constantly open since it turned warm in June. 8)
They are growing in 4 inch pots - maybe they want bigger pots? :P
They did take a huge hit a few weeks ago, when the staging collapsed and sent them head first to the floor :o
Hope anyone have some ideas.. It's my first peppers..
Dorthe - 4 inch pots sounds a bit small to me. I am growing them in bucket-sized containers - the black "florist" bucket type with holes drilled in the bottom.
I was rather late potting on 1 aub and 1 sweet pepper for various reasons, then potted them on into much bigger pots. They seem to be doing alright now. In my experience they don't mind being re-potted, even once fruiting. Its not the ideal, but seems to be OK. So, don't worry. My advice would be to re-pot.
10cm and 1 cm wide, sound more like chillis !!!!!!. 4 in sounds a bit small, got mine in 10 inch pots, they are 2 ft high. think i saw somewhere 9 inch pots should be the smallest
