Title: Name of yellow courgette?
Post by: jennym on July 14, 2005, 23:12:18
I'm growing a lovely tasting courgette, which has the bonus of being bright yellow. Unfortunately, a member of my household threw all my empty seed packets away before I had time to note the varieties for this year in my diary.
Does anyone have any idea what variety this could be?

Does anyone find that compared to ordinary green courgettes that:
1.  Yellow are slower growing
2.  The yield in numbers of fruits is lower
3.  Yellow do not turn into marrows but just get longer...yeah!
4.  Yellow have a tendency to stay really narrow at the flower end and only thicken up for 3/4 of their length?

........or is it just me and my varieties?! :-\    I have are Gold Rush and Orelia

I grow the round yellow courgette called Sunburst. They are eaten when golf ball size or can be allowed to get to tennis ball size and then can be stuffed or fried.  Either fried or steamed they are delicious and so easy to grow  :)

None of mine have been left long enough to get big, but I would say they don't seem so prolific as grren ones, and they seem a bit slower to grow.

Thanks for the feedback - has helped me make up my mind to grow more of them next year.  Have got it so wrong this year its more like day of the triffids with courgettes - they are everywhere at home and I'm banned from putting any more in the fridge.....got them lining up down the work top now   ::)
