WOW
I have just harvested my first crop ever.
Dwarf French Beans x 12... - 1 which I tasted and ate in the garden grinning cause it was the best bean ever...Even though I do not know if you need to cook them first.
Strawberries x 1... -1 There was no way I was going to show it to the rest of the family. I might have had to share it.
not a lot I know but that strawberry was great... every bit of it.
The rest of the beans are going to be cooked and chilled and popped into a salad.
What a feeling
K@ren X
well done :D
and hope many more massive harvests to come.............
;D I know the feeling :o but I have not yet enjoyed the crop you have just had, just waiting in anticipation ;D
It is worse when there is just a half left for you, be thankful for a whole one!
I did notice the first strawberry and bit half of it and left it on plant ;D
Congratulations Karen. I can almost see your happy smiling face as you tasted your first efforts - nothing like it. So now you've got the veg. is it squirrel on the BBQ to go with it? ;)
Glad to hear you've got veggies ;D Nowt like that first ever crop until the second one that is. I never get fed up of picking and eating me veg :)
Yesterday it was bulb fennel. My lotty mate told me to braise it with onion, garlic and a herb, eg thyme with white wine or chicken stock and then sit a chicken on top , or chicken pieces etc. Cover it and put it in oven and then stir in some cream. I did it last night and we had it with just dug spuds just cooked in their skins. I didn't know if I even liked fennel but it was gorgeous. We had it with the bottle of champers my OH had bought me for our 25th wedding anniversary. Never thought lottying would reap such rewards. Good news is that there are loads more fennel bulbs on the plot :)
K@ren Congratulations!! I am just jealous, haven't got a lottie but waiting for my first runners to appear in the garden, flowering well but no beans yet!! Lorna.
My fourth picking of my first ever crop of strawberries was 5lb off about 12 plants
and they are not small either, just how you would draw one if you was asked too.
And boy do they taste good!!!!!
Ron
Have now had first set of peas and two sets of strawberries :) Hope to harvest second set of peas and first set of beans this weekend.
Not much happening with my bulb fennel at the moment, but might get courgettes and lettuce soon.Â
Then it's a wait to see if the slugs have left me any potatoes, the squirrels and foxes leave me any sweetcorn and the little dears leave me any pumpkins ;D
WELL DONE :D :D
IT'S A GREAT FEELING ;)
HOPE YOU GET MORE STRAWBERRIES SOON ;D
Karen I'm doing a wildlife pond too :)
Well done karen! I detected part of plot and found £1.12 and a few old coins! rusty scissors and what seemed like flint tool? Definately looked like a "worked" flint.
Elsewhere a digger had scrapped surface off and just sitting on the surface was a silver shilling :D
Congratulations Karen. It is a great feeling picking something you grown yourself. Nothing taste better.
Hope you have many more joys like that to come. :) busy_lizzie
