Title: Holiday thread
Post by: Dirkdigger on July 12, 2005, 21:38:44
Thought it might be nice to have a thread for people to post all there holiday images on.
Hi GW, managed to take a few photo's on our rambles. This one was taken from our walk from Sennen to lands End.
Didn't manage to get to Heligan or Eden. They will have to wait for another day.
We stayed in a little village called Porthcurno, the famous Minack theatre is just through the village. Wonderfull beach !!!!!

Lovely pictures DD, & they brought back lots of memories too - the Minack is where I got my username! - played the character there many years ago.  And I agree - Porthcurno really has a wonderful beach.  Unfortunately we didn't get to enjoy it much - we were rehearsing all day!  You get some good views from the theatre though.

I like the basking shark; I used to watch them off Arran years ago when I was doing some geological mapping for my degree.

Unfortunately no room  even for  a mouse.
Already decided must stream everything down next year. Only 2 cameras next time. Didn't realise till I got home the far beach on the bay is frequented by naturist. No close ups, but you can see in the pictures of the bay.
Cant believe the way the allotment has grown in our absence. Our tomato's are in fact a jungle. Cabbages being picked as well as carrots spring onions and beetroot. Courgettes  spreading across the plot like the green death.
Potatoes did quite well, probably retrieved about 35KG of early pentland and Charlotte potatoes.
Been over this morning and our first runner beans are growing, about 4-5 inches in length. Masses of flowers, so looking forward to them.
Also we have been eating our peas and lettuce.
So in the 4-5 months we have had the plot, we are chuffed to death.
Forgot the strawberries, seems our show was the talk of the allotment. We have 4 rows left to us by the previous owner, from them we estimated our total crop was about 15KG. The best tasting berries I have ever tasted.
Will try and post a picture of our overgrown tomato plant jungle.

Would thoroughly recommend this ladies properties if anyone thinking of paying a visit to the area. We even had flowers, pot of tea and chocolate biscuits waiting for us on our arrival.
Hope this is OK to recommend on this site.

Cant believe after all the hard work planting things, soon as everything starts to grow seems to be gone in 5 minutes. Relations I've never heard of seem to be popping up, enquiring how the new allotments going. Don't suppose you have any spare do you ?? ::) ::)
Still must not grumble, just pleased to be able to offer anything. Really surprised ourselves, that we have managed to grow any produce at all.
Couple of local scroungers on our visit to St Micheals Mount. Coffee shop recommended.

This is the view from the Minack theatre, across all the bay. Porthcurno beach is still in view, the other bays are only exposed at low water. The man in the photo is at the top of the steps from the beach.
Second photo is someones entrance to the back garden. They seem to grow like weeds down there.

Just a short stroll from where I took the photo of the back garden gate I came out to this. This is the cottage the garden belongs too. Second photo is the view a little further down the road.
When we returned past the cottage the owners must have returned, big Maserati in the drive.
Not too envious >:( >:(

I'm in a huff because I've been trying for ages to get a good shot of the gulls around here. I love the whiteness of their plummage. There is a  small type I've noticed today that has a longish red beak. It is very beautiful but won't keep still!  Think it may be a seasonal visitor.

The latest pic of the waves crashing against the rocks...it looks to me like the rocks are almost curling their toes. All wrinkly against the cold!  Great picture. That would look good on my wall too!

I love your pictures DD.  ;D

Glad you like the wave photo's Heldi. If you look closely at the rocks in the distance you can see my photo, just changed lens took it from where we were having a cup of coffee.
GW some cottage, we all said when we win the ..................

Second photo of people walking across the causeway to the mount. Blurred the people to try and keep there anonymity.

Last photo's tonight anyway.
2 of the helicopter again taken from the Minack steps. Not sure if it was a drill or a real emergency, only the day before a local man said to take care whilst fishing from the rocks at high water. Should always take more notice of people that know more about the area than yourself.
