Title: aubergines not setting
Post by: clicksac on July 10, 2005, 15:21:48
My hydroponic aubergine grows in our conservatory. It has lovey leaves and beautiful flowers. But the flowers drop off without setting. It is regularly misted with water. Ideas welcome - it's the fruit I want, not the leaves!

I've had similar problems. Were they moneymakers? I tend to find the black beauty variety much more likely to set adn produce aubs after having similar problems to yourself. Also found that they set much better in the greenhouse, not managed to sucessfully get any fruit from having them in a conservatory/ window ledge.
Had the same thing with chillis/peppers. Put them out in the greenhouse and away they went.......maybe they need pollination from another plant or insect?

They are Aeroplane Brand "long eggplants" -solanum melongena L.- that our wandering son sent back from Thailand.
Yet more flowers, still no fruit

I'm growing Moneymaker in my little growhouse and lovely flower but no sign of any fruit.  I put it outside when it's sunny and put it back if it gets too windy.  I have sprayed mine with water to encourage fruit to set and the insects can get at it as I leave the growhouse door open.  I think it will fruit eventually.  I expect we have to be patient  :)
