Title: Purple Sprouting Broccoli
Post by: Greenfingers Jo on July 05, 2005, 12:29:42
I planted mine out ages ago and am now thinning them out, as some of my spuds are up and the spinach has bolted. Some of the plants have purple heads on them already. Are these ready for harvest 'cos the pack said sow in March harvest Oct/Nov.

Help, I'm, confused?
Also can I eat the green leaves or would they be best given to my rabbit?

Thanks
Jo

Not quite with you - you sowed them in March?? So you should now be taking the strongest & planting them out at 24" spacing. DEEP & FIRM.

Nothing 'maturing' now will be of much worth.

I've got two types, summer purple sprouting and early purple sprouting. My summer purple sprouting is maturing now and I've been picking for a couple of weeks. The early purple sprouting is still growing and no sign of cropping yet.

Forgot the new summer ones, like Bordeaux, but my point remains.
