Title: Globe Artichokes - can I still sow?
Post by: Moggle on July 04, 2005, 16:32:56
Have been given some globe artichoke seeds after saying to a gardening friend how much I admired some artichoke plants on my allotment site.

Packet says sow feb or march/april. Is it worth my trying some now?

Would they be okay to put in the open ground this year? Or best in pots over winter?

Cheers all

They take a while to grow, as they're such large plants, and I don't think they are very hardy, some survive, some don't.  If they were mine, I'd keep them til next season, and start them off then. I grew some from seed last season and they were fabulous, and took cuttings. But I started them really early indoors.  Good luck  Lottie  ;D

It is too late to sow seeds now,but not too late  to plant/pot up some off shoots from established plants. Ask around the lottie.
