Title: Side shoots on Sweetcorn
Post by: Lady of the Land on June 30, 2005, 19:58:32
Can anyone help with regards to the side shoots on sweetcorn, should they be left alone or removed. Is the harvest increased or decreased by removing or leaving side shoots.

Thankyou

Side shoots

Compared with standard corn, sweet corn has a stronger tendency to produce side shoots, which in the past were usually removed. Tests have shown that there is no difference between allotments with and without removal of the side shoots. Thus, this measure is superfluous and can´t be recommended.
