Thanks Montanum. Took the old brain a while to take in the instructions that son gave me for posting pics but seems I have got there at last. The mystery plant is weird, the flower part turns completely black..About 8 years ago I had a chap come to do a bit of gardening each week (I was working) he planted it. My neighbour opposite said he liked it and as it was behind the shed I gave it to him.Anyhow it has never appeared in my garden again until this year. I can only assume that when all the old ivy was cleared from the shed there was a seed lurking somewhere!! This year I have planted a few spring flowering perenials as my garden always looks bare in the spring. Had lots of advise from members on the forums. Regards Lorna.

Hi Lorna! Congratulations! Thank you very much for sharing your photographs. I've no idea what the mystery plant is btw but the absolutely expert would probably be Palaustris - he might know. You have a lovely garden. Px

Hello again, Lorna.  It looks as though you have a very colourful garden.  I love the Florida sieboldi - very pretty.  Can't name the mystery plant, though, I'm afraid!

What lovely photos Lorna.  Your garden must look a picture.  I love the fuchsia (a passion of mine) and the clematis looks like Nelly Moser (I have one and it looks the same).  The mystery plant is very strange, have not seen one like that before.  Will be interested to see if anyone can identify it (usually Eric(Palustris) can identify plants so if he looks in you may have your answer :))  What a brilliant idea to use the water butt as a planter - very colourful, also the gate as a climbing frame :)

Thanks for all the kind comments. When my husband was alive we owned a holiday chalet at California Sand s Gt Yarmouth and on the way there we went through a little village (I think it was called Filby) and along the grass verge ouside every house was a butt. So when we got home my husband went in the garden in his wheelchair and I lifted the butt on to a table and he sat out there drilling 110holes for me..It doesn't seem quite so good this year and my geraniums seem leggy I think because they were put out so late due to the cold winds in these parts.Incidently the butt has a stainless tube inserted down the middle of the butt (with holes drilled all down the tube) so I just have to insert the hose in the top of the tube and it lets the water filter all the way round the tub. Happy gardening. Lorna.

Correction!!! Oh dear my memory must be playing tricks or just down to old age. >:( The tube in the water butt is  aluminium  Have several lengths which have come in handy in the garden, they were left overs from my son's window blind business) Lorna.

Lovely pictures of your garden....I can help you identify the plant as I had the same problem a couple of years ago so sent a photo to the RHS.   It is called Phytolacca acinosa or Indian Pokeweed for short.  Do the berries go black once they have flowered ??  I never planted this and it has just appeared, and it does not appear to be invasive, so I thought hey what the heck and have just left it to its own devices each month....

Lovely pictures Lorna, all of them (that includes the ones in your other posts too  :))

Robert, The Peony looks like Paeonia Officinalis 'Rubra Plena' which is what I think I have in my garden (so does just about everyone else in the neighbourhood  ???). I've just typed the name into Google Images and most of the piccies that came up looked like the one in Lorna's picture (and the one in my garden).
