Title: Incinerator
Post by: NattyEm on June 26, 2005, 13:06:30
I think it must be a special art.  Not matter how hard we try neither myself nor my lottie pal Louisa can manage to get the incinerator going.  (metal drum lots of holes in the side)

All incinerator tips greatfully received :)

Depends on what you're trying to burn.

Weeds never seem to catch properly, even if they seem dry. I find it's best to keep a look out for some discarded wood in local skips/around our bins at the flats, and start a 'proper' fire in the incinerator with that first, then add the weeds/garden waste once it gets going.

Failing that, BBQ lighting gel is quite good (burns for a while and not as dangerous to light as liquid 'accelerants').

If you want to burn anything damp you need a good base to the fire. Build it up with scrapwood or something similar as suggested, then once it's going well you can put your weeds or whatever onto it.
