I can also report succes with my lettuce (Lolla Rosso and Little Gem )

I didn't dare grow them on my slug/snail ridden lottie, so started

them in greenhouse. They are beautiful to look at - shall be cutting

some today for salad.

My lettuce have been great this year also.  They did okay last year but bolted before hearting up!  Some are so glamerous, much like yours Tim.  I almost feel sad when cutting them...I did say almost!  ;D

I sowed some very boring "All the Year Round" lettuce.  Then didn't water it enough.  I think the hearts are probably OK, but the outer leaves are a bit, err, crispy!  Been meaning to pull them up and sow chinese leaves instead (yes, and water properly, duh!).

Wow Tim, 2lb is a heck of a weight!!

What do Pablo taste like?

I have grown Little Gem & Romaine and both have been ok, romaine seem to  have stood better through the warm spell over the last few weeks.

My lettuce this year has been good too!  Sangria, the one that survived was fabulous!
Tim that looks great. I must try it next year!

A variety called Butterhead which I haven't grown before, have done fantastically well.  Started off under cloches.

Mothy - taste?? Lettucy??

Not especially sweet or such.  But worth growing. The Romaine (Claremont) are sweeter.

looks gorgeous!

I can't grow them in the ground - slugs and snails. Forgot to sow any in pots, under fleece this year. Now I suspect it'd be too hot - right?

My lettuces have been great too!  One variety in particular..forgot the name though...liebsomething Ice or something like that.  My all year rounds haven't made it to heart stage, I've been taking them small!

Aquilegia,  no its not to hot just be careful to select a summer variety to prevent bolting.   Most of the lettuce, endive etc in the shops is UK grown this time of year but note they are sown under cover and planted as small plug plants.

Had to go a try it!! Pretty but floppy. Don't know whether it'll get a crisp heart - doubt it. The Yellow's another floppy one. I shall stick to Pablo, Claremont & Sherwood &/or Little Gem in future. Plus some true cca types like Lollo Rossa or Fristina. But there are new ones every day??

Must have a bit of crunch!!

[Must have a bit of crunch!!]

Then try Lobjoit - a lovely, sweet and crisp cos lettuce. I've never grown lettuce before but decided to give these a go (cheated by buying plugs at Garden Centre ;D). My dozen plants are beautiful and have grown without being got at by slugs and snails - don't ask me why because I expected them to be devoured within minutes of planting them out! I pulled the first one two days ago and I'm still trying to finish it up. Will be having a third meal from it tomorrow, the rest will go on the compost. It's lovely to be eating a lettuce that I know has not been treated with anything except water!
