Title: Butterfly ID please

Does anyone know what butterfly this is, snapped inside a window this morning:

 :) Lovely picture of a Speckled Wood, Pararge Aegeria. Found (common) in S England local further North. Fond of sunbathing and caterpillars feed on grasses.

I use Collins Complete British Wildlife, has very good real photographs, paperback in a plastic slip cover.ISBN 0-583-33638-8 if you should want to buy one.

Excellent, many thanks for that!

It did look lovely this morning, it most have come in an open window yesterday to feed on the sweet williams in a vase just by the window.

Hey red clanger I just loved the clangers. Bought one for my grandaughter. Dog took a liking to it and nicked it. We would hear the clanger calling, when dog bit him. Ouch!!

I now need a book that has the catterpiller pics in!!
