Has anyone else here grown yard long beans? Mine went in 3 weeks ago with the rest of my climbing beans but they haven't climbed an inch yet, runners and frenchies are galloping up the poles but the YLB's are just sitting there moping ???
My Frenchies are moping as well. Give them time.
Our beans are pitiful this year.
The rest of mine are OK, it's just these four little boogers :'(
The whole of my plot is moping - except my maincrop potatoes which desperately need earthing. I've been told they'll get blight anyway.
I should start treating them with bordeaux mixture or aspirin then. Why do people think they'll get blight?
The YLB is one of our chinese green long bean. I've try them last year they not even flower yet then cold wether come a long killed it all. :'( This year I only just plant them out last Friday.Growing slowly. Hope I can get some bean this year. They're very nice cook with garlic :)

I was very clever and planted my YLBs in the greenhouse border...
Errm...they're rubbish. About five inches high & covered in aphids.
I started some YLB about 8 weeks ago in the conservatory, when they were about 6 inches high I went outside for just two minutes leaving the door open and was amazed to find that the beans had drooped so badly in that few minutes that they were flopped down the sides of the pot, they recovered in a couple of hours once the door was closed. They are now in my greenhouse in a large container and growing up canes, tortuous progress to get them to their present 12".
Hi,
I am in Australia.
Where do you get yard long bean seeds from please?
Thanks
Gill

blight is supposedly endemic on the allotments - have taken it with a pinch of salt.
If the warm weather this weekend doesn't get them moving nothing will 8)
It's certainly got my bees moving. I've just been going through the hives; honey is coming in again whereas a few days ago they were eating their way through what they'd stored.
Gill,I got my seed from Hong Kong when last time I went back. But I have seen it in Dobies
http://www.dobies.co.uk/
try it ;)I'm not sure does it do oversea or not ???

My yard long beans aren't doing very well at all....they are still in the packet! :'(
woohoo, theyve started sending up climbing tendrils ;D
Hi MT
I grew YLB on the recommendation of an article in one of the gardening magazines. The author of the article grew them with great success. I was not impressed. I planted them the same day, I planted my runners and climbing french beans, treated them the same. Over the entire season they never reached 4ft, my total crop was four pods about four inches long. A waste of money and growing space. LesH
LesH at least you have 4 pods.Mines last year only have a few flower with no pod at tall :'( So this year I'm not given that much hope on it see how many of them will come up :o
