Tim that whole slug bit made me smile!  I thought they just slid off it! :o   And watching them react to the copper was great  ;D

;D Neither did I but thinking about it, Vaseline is oil based as is WD40, so maybe a smear of oil would do the trick also? ;D

Someone on the BBC board a little while ago was using a ring of vaseline mixed with salt around his pots. He then put slugs in the empty pot and put it in the sunshine, to give them a reason to want to get out. Apparently the vaseline/salt mix was the only thing they wouldn't cross - they did cross copper tape. Not tried it, but it sounds an interesting idea.

WD40 is the recommended, cheaper treatment. But no good for porous surfaces like raised bed edges.  And, anyway, I have a huge tin of 'soft yellow paraffin' - which is at least 40 years old & needs using!

d**n. I thought it was because they couldn't get a grip to cross it.

And d**n because I was going to (eventually when I got round to it) use baby oil (which I'm alergic to - so have most of a bottle left somewhere).

I wish I'd remembered to watch Blodie. I missed every single one! ::)
