Title: How long should I give them?
Post by: spacehopper on June 11, 2005, 21:41:50
How long do you give seeds to germinate? I've planted courgettes, pumpkins, butternut squash, brussel sprouts, rhubarb and cucumbers. They were done a week ago, apart from the cucumbers which were done a few days ago. All planted in compost in a lean-to-shed with a perspex roof (sort of a greenhouse). The courgettes and cucumbers have done ok. Everything else is disappointing. How long should I give it?  ??? Thanks!

Not sure if I'll be much help....  Planted my butternut squash last Sunday and some were up yesterday but others showing no signs.  I've read on here that they can be temperamental to germinate.  I have mine inside on the windowsill in pots and covered the pots in plastic bags to help germinate.  Same as you, my cucs and courgettes are up OK.

Hopefully someone with more experience will be along soon!

Different seeds take different amounts of time to germinate but most veg seeds should be through within 7 or 8 days at this time of year, why not sow another lot as backup
