Title: old potatoes
Post by: slugcatcher on June 10, 2005, 07:44:21
Do I have a problem or not?
All through my plot I have old potatoes growing
Aparantlly they have been in for quite somtime as the previous owners of the plot didnt plant a great deal of anything.

I keep pulling the top growth off as I cant dig down to get the rest out as it is in my growing area.

Is this going to be a problem when I come to grow potatoes for myself next year not nowing what has grown where before

Advice very welcome

Ron

You need to get them all out (I have the same problem on mine) Volunteer potatoes are the biggest blight risk and may spoil that area of your plot for years.

Can't you make a note of where the volunteers are coming through and plant your Spuds accordingly

I've been digging them out of mine and thankfully up until today they have all been in my bean bed so about three years until I use that space.  Today I dug a volunteer plant where I will have my potatoes next year -  >:(
