Title: Pumpkin / Squash flowers
Post by: Nigella on June 07, 2005, 12:55:29
After reading a thread on pumpkins - I noted advice abot giving a helping hand to fertilise pumpkins - putting the male and female flowers together.  :o

If I don't do this - will there be no pumpkins ?

Do you need to do this for squash as well ?  :-\

I neverpollinate mine; I just leave it to the insects. They do a pretty good job judging by the number of fruit I get.

Last year the ones I didn't pollinate grew to a few inches then rotted. I had a problem finding enough male fowers. This year I've planted more to increase the chances. I'd like to feel I could leave it to the insects but here's nothing like being sure.
