After reading a thread on pumpkins - I noted advice abot giving a helping hand to fertilise pumpkins - putting the male and female flowers together. :o
If I don't do this - will there be no pumpkins ?
Do you need to do this for squash as well ? :-\
I neverpollinate mine; I just leave it to the insects. They do a pretty good job judging by the number of fruit I get.

yeah, no need to bother. in fact, why not eat a few of the flowers - battered then deep fried. fan bl**dy tastic!
Don't help, still got a pile of squashes from last year to eat!
Last year the ones I didn't pollinate grew to a few inches then rotted. I had a problem finding enough male fowers. This year I've planted more to increase the chances. I'd like to feel I could leave it to the insects but here's nothing like being sure.
