Title: Planting witn Comfrey
Post by: Sprout on June 07, 2005, 10:34:05
I've just started a comfrey bed but have a couple of feet spare at the front. Does anyone know whether comfrey will have an adverse, beneficial or neutral affect on crops grown nearby? Has anyone planted anything with comfrey that has worked or died?

anything that needs a lot of potassium will be very happy with it. Also the flowers will attract beneficial insects.

If you're thinking of planting something permanent, then don't forget comfrey gets pretty big, so it may swamp other plants.

Yes. I was thinking of a row or two of radishes which should be ready before the comfrey gets too big.

Ooo, comfrey.  Phil, mine is growing like the clappers!  ;D  It is still in it's pot, should it stay in a big pot this year and be planted out next?  It will be going in the dappled shade of my apple trees as this is about the only space I have left for a permanent planting!

My Comfrey plants are growing in the 5 foot gap between my Summer and Autumn Raspberry rows, no problems at all

One word of warning-I cut a load down today wearing little but a pair of shorts-didn`t really notice anything until I got into the spa after a gym session-made me tickle and itch like nothing.

Moral-wear more clothes when handling comfrey or beware who is in the spa ;D
