Ohhhh dibber  :o   :D
I apologise for chuckling, ;D ;)
Lets hope someone can come up with a different idea, fingers crossed  ;D
Not Dahlia, or cannabis in fact.
Lupin?
Jerry
sanders thanks for the suggestion of lupins but i have also grown lupins this year and they look nothing like them , i just wish i know what it was as i have planted 20 of them in my border they look very healthy just have to wait and see if they flower
Look more like Ricinus than Dahlias to me. So whatever you do don't eat the seeds!
palustris what is Ricinus never heard of it is it a weed ,and why cant u eat the seeds not that i would also the plants smell just like tomotoes plants.
Ricinus communis also known as Castor Oil plant is often grown as a bedding out plant for its leaves which can be bright red. The seeds and the plant are poisonous, the source of Ricin which was used to assassinate a Bulgarian defector in London some time ago now. He was stabbed with an umberella tip smeared with the stuff.
Google images for a picture of the leaves of the plant.
:o I used to have a plant Ricinus
communis Castor Oil Plant, Palma Christi very exotic looking leafy plant and it died on me shortly afterward, thankfully as I didn’t realize how toxic it was at the time. :o

Ricin and Terrorism
Ricin toxin is derived from Castor Bean Plant. Ricin is one of the most poisonous naturally occurring substances known. And now Arab terrorists have been captured with it in London. Ricin is a stable toxin easily made from the mash that remains after processing Castor beans (Ricinus communis) for oil. Castor Oil was once used as an oral laxative, but is now used mainly as an industrial lubricant and for preparing leather products. Castor beans are grown agriculturally worldwide and the plants grow wildly in arid parts of the United States. Castor beans are slightly larger than pinto beans, darkly colored with light mottling, and have a small light-brown cap at one end. They have been described as looking like blood-engorged ticks. The beans are not normally used as food. Poisoning can occur following inhalation, ingestion, or injection of ricin toxin from Castor beans.
Ricin is toxic by numerous exposure routes and its use by terrorists might involve poisoning of water or foodstuffs, inoculation via ricin-laced projectiles, or aerosolization of liquid ricin or distribution of a powder.

Didn't a Russian spy get p
ricked in the leg on London Bridge years ago with Ricin on the tip of an umbrella? That resulted in death :o ??? Lol you beat me to it Eric ;D
:o Skuse the Language ??? but b****y hell didn't know that ??? :o :o
thanks for the info Roy and Eric but surely garden news would not dish out seeds for a plant that is so poisonous , is does not ring a bell that i had c astor oil seeds the kids help me plant all the seeds and we labeled all of them up but lost the label for this plant. i had 2 packet of dalia seeds and thought this is one of them i will take some more pictures today as i took them late last night perhaps a bit of sunshine on them might shed a bit of light .
:) Hey dibberxxx I just looked at your picture again & the leaves are not smooth which I thought they would be with castor plant how about POTENTILLA I just found a T & M seed packet that was a freebie & the leaves look very similar ;D ;D
;D Think it may even have been garden news ;D
Here a few more pictures which I have just took in the morning sunshine and I resized them a bit bigger this time for a better look...

....how about POTENTILLA.....
Hmmmm maybe, but can't remember getting Potentilla seeds either but thanks anyways.:D
:) No, maybe not as you say, a bit peoni looking perhaps ??? ???
Not any paeony that I know of with those hairy stems, nor do I now think it is Ricinus, same reason. Cannot off hand either think of any potentilla with that feature either, but there are an awful lot of them. Leaves are not really dark enough nor 'leathery' looking enough to my mind for dahlias.
:) No quite right not paeony ::) but how about chrysogonum golden star ??? yellow flowers about 1 1/4" long. They have bright green hairy stems & leaves about 8 - 12" tall & spread ??? :) (http://nucite.net/isWext.php/3842/66238.jpg) This is not a good picture but any help ??? ??? It is a semi evergreen perennial
Have you thought about giving garden news a ring or email to ask them what they might have been?
well that a good ideal will have a look see if they have a website or email addy and send them the picture , perhaps they will be able to tell me what they are
ps thanks MF could be , so relieved Palustris its not Ricinus
:) Do let me know if you do find out :) :) :)
Now come on all you A4A'ers that I sent CLEOME seeds to last year ;D ;D

Don't panic :o I still say they are cleome. From the second photo you can see the prickles beginning to form on the stems. They are lovely flowers, but very thorny when fully grown.
Pat
i do think u are right pat i defently had a packet of Cleome seeds , do they get very tall pat, must have a look and try to find a picture of them
Here is a photo of some of my cleomes from last year dibber. They are quite tall, better used as back of border plants.

Pat

Think that you sent me some cleome seeds Pat. Didnt get even one to germinate :'( :-\ :'( Such a beautiful plant and flower too.
:) Hi dibber, just looked up cleome or spider flower & looking at your picture again & the book pictures I would agree that it probably is cleome. ;D I looked at that link marrianne sent you & I would definately say you won't have the D squad round they don't look the same 8)
Hahahaha ;D :D Well after all that Dibber, lucky for you, it's not the dreaded weed ! ;D
I am glad it's all sorted out now. ;) :D
Oh Mimi - so sorry to hear the seeds did not germinate, they are usually very easy to get going. If you like, I will save you some more from this year. I am eager to see whether I get the variation in colour that I got last year, or whether they will all be white. Let me know if you would like me to save you some and anyone else who wants some. There are always plenty to go round :D As I said before, they are a bit spiteful, but worth growing for their beauty I think.
Look forward to seeing your photos dibber :)
Pat
thank you every body for all your help in identifing my plant at least i know what it is and am really looking forward to the flowers just hope they flower as nice as pats
;) :)
