Title: chamomile
Post by: David R on June 04, 2005, 14:02:08
quick question, has anyone grown chamomile for making tea?

My oh is very keen for me to grow it for her next year but I have not a clue. I intend to grow it down the lotty but am worried about it becoming a weed  :-\

You use the flowers for tea, so if you harvest them regularly it won't get chance to seed + become a weed problem.

If you start to grow it and OH changes her mind - GET IT OUT - or it will be the most fragrant weed you have. If you grow German Chamomile it's annual + much less of a potential weed threat.

I've just transplanted my chamomile plants today along a fence line. If it should become a problem I will just dig it out and transplant phacelia or vetch to suppress unwanted growth until I come up with another plan. I'll actually be happy if it survives the slugs and rabbits long enough to become a problem. It's on the outside of the fence in no mans land so the odds are slim.
